Most Treasure Valley homes with a crawlspace rely on a sump pump to move groundwater out before it sits under the house. When that pump fails you usually find out the hard way, with standing water, a musty smell coming up through the floor, or a pump that runs constantly and never shuts off. Signs Your Sump Pump Is Failing
A pump that runs nonstop is usually a stuck float switch or a pump that is undersized for how much water is coming in. A pump that never runs during a wet stretch may have a failed switch, a tripped breaker, or a seized motor. Rattling and grinding point to worn bearings or debris in the impeller. Water in the crawlspace with a pump that appears to be running often means a bad check valve letting discharged water flow straight back into the pit.
Sump Pump Replacement
Most sump pumps last 7 to 10 years, and they tend to fail during the wettest part of the year when you need them most. When we replace one we size the pump to the actual water volume in your pit rather than defaulting to whatever was there before, check that the discharge line runs far enough from the foundation, and replace the check valve at the same time since it is the part that most often fails next.
Battery Backup Systems
A sump pump is useless in a power outage, and around here outages often arrive with the same storm that fills the pit. A battery backup pump takes over when the primary loses power or gets overwhelmed. If your crawlspace has flooded before, this is the upgrade worth making.

Most last 7 to 10 years. Pumps that cycle heavily through a wet spring wear out faster. If yours is near that age and you are hearing new noises, replacing it before it fails is cheaper than dealing with a flooded crawlspace.
Usually a float switch stuck in the on position, a check valve letting discharged water run back into the pit, or a pump too small for the amount of groundwater coming in. All three are things we can diagnose on site.
Most replacements land between $600 and $1,400 installed, depending on the pump and whether the discharge line and check valve need work. You get a flat-rate quote before we start.
